When the human body isn’t getting enough sleep it’s time to address the problems that could be causing this. Sleep is the time when the body works to heal itself, and to regain strength and energy for each following day. While different people need different amounts of sleep, people that aren’t getting enough can find themselves with all sorts of health issues.

So many things happen with the body when a person sleeps. Their minds get cleared of all the stress that they’ve gone through all day, letting them be more relaxed. The heart rate slows, and so does breathing, giving the body a good deal of rest. Not getting enough sleep does many things including weakening the immune system. That opens the body up more to colds, the flu, and other viral infections.

How A Lack Of Sleep Affects Moods

When a person doesn’t get enough sleep on a regular basis, skipping a night’s sleep all together or only getting two or three hours a night, it not only weakens the immune system but it can also make it hard for them to focus and stay in a good mood. A lack of sleep can cause mood swings, irritability, and anger issues. This could cause problems at work or even problems in personal relationships.

Take A Nap

Some people have a hard time getting to sleep at night, which is why many sleep specialists will suggest using a journal at night to help clear the thoughts that keep people up. If sleep is difficult to find it can also be beneficial to take a nap each day. Under an hour nap isn’t going to do too much for the body, but over an hour and a half may be too much and will make the person want to stay asleep. Naps are a delicate thing.

How Much Sleep Does A Person Need?

To find out how much sleep an individual needs it just takes three nights of uninterrupted sleep and no alarm clock in the morning. Go to bed at the same time all three nights and get up when the body wakes up naturally. That third night will be the determining factor of how many hours are really needed. It could be anywhere from 6 to 9 for the average adult.

Babies need more sleep than adults, and teens could need more or less, depending on their metabolism somewhat. Most people can tell when they aren’t getting enough sleep because they will find it harder to get through each day without lagging.
